I complained to the council about the height and steepness of some traffic calming "bumps" they have installed recently. A local councillor wrote back and informed me that the incorrect angle of rubber strips were fitted by the contractors and were due to be replaced. I have now had to replace a cracked coil spring in the suspension, do you think I am able to claim for this?
If the humps are not in accordance with regulations, then you might have grounds for a claim. If they are in accordance, you are probably flogging a dead horse.
Only if it is safe to do so, you need to compare what has been installed against the requirements of the Highways (road humps) Regulations 1999. Google the regulations to obtain a copy and look at section 4 for acceptable dimensions. If the humps in question exceed the regulations, special permission is needed and you will need to find out if this was granted.
