how do i claim against a private company who deny liability

I forgot to mention that I would send every letter by 'track and trace' and I would refuse to engage in any verbal discussions.

On the assumption that you do not wish to take proper legal advice, this is what I would do:

Write to them formally, but professionally, explaining exactly what happened, what I am claiming and why I consider that they are at fault. I would make it perfectly clear that it was a letter of claim as this then starts the ball rolling on the civil procedure rules.

When I received a formal rejection letter and assuming that I was not happy with their explanation, I would write back advising them as such and offering them 28 days to reimburse me and advise them that after such time I would issue court proceedings. If they still did not reimburse me and I felt as though I was in the right, I would make a small claim through the County Court.
