Not exactly a pothole?

26th August 2011

I recently drove over a roundabout a few miles away from mine and, doing around 30mph, i suddenly hit a grate (or metal drain cover) in the road. The actual metal grate itself was lower than the road surface so my wheel subsequently hit the corner where the road surface and the lowered section meets. It resulted in the rim one of my fairly expensive alloy wheels to become bent outwards to the point of where its unrepairable. Am I still covered or able to make a claim over this sort of thing? Thanks in advance for any feedback

When you say "covered" do you mean by your insurance? If so, I can only suggest you speak to them.

If you are looking for compensation, then have a read of our step by step guide, which can be used for the incidents such as yours. The correct word for what you hit is a "gully cover" (no 'e' in gully)
