grating had sunk

9th December 2011

My mum was driving yesterday and hit what she thought was a pothole BUT it turns out it was a grating that had sunk below the road surface. The tyre split and she had to replace it with the spare.

Does anyone know if this is treated differently to a pothole. I've assumed it's slightly different because it's road 'furniture' but would be grateful if anyone knows about his.

Depends what you mean by "treated"? Makes no difference with regard to any claim you might wish to make. However, maintenance standards might be different as it is considered generally that you wont be driving so close to the edge of the road that you travel over a gully grating.
