Going up Farnham Road in Guildford on Monday night 9/01/12, I heard a loud bang, then as I drove further on my car started to make a noise, and the steering was shaking, I had to drive on to get off the Hogs Back. I and my 3 passengers realised I must have gone over a pothole. I stopped to inspect the car and found that the tyre had burst and the part that hit the hole had bent the rim of the wheel. Next afternoon, I went back to check on the pothole but the Council had filled in the hole. I took a picture which showed the large hole had obviously been filled in freshly because of the colour of the tar. Can someone please advise me what to do? I can't show the depth of the hole as they had filled it in. Please help.
I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean 'do you need to inform them of its presence?', then obviously not because they already know about it.
If you mean 'do you need to identify which pothole caused the damage?', then yes, you must do this.
Thanks for your advice. Do I still need to advise the Council regarding the pot hole they have filled in, which caused the burst tyre in the first place before I begin my step by step claim to the Council please. Many thanks.
Photographs and measurements of the pothole might be useful, but the fact it was filled is sufficient to prove it was there and that it was deep enough to merit attention. Now you need to be looking at our step by step guide for advice on what you could do next.
