Why do we pay road tax??

21st June 2010

I hit a pothole at the weekend, a large one at that! It's located on a small estate, 30mph limit, I didn't know it was there and didn't see it coming as I was following another vehicle. The annoying part is I drive a Mondeo St petrol, being a high spec car I can only use genuine Ford parts which are designed specifically for that car, the impact has bent both wishbones, bent the shocker and hub on the drivers side front an punctured the tyre. A quote from the garage I took the car to this morning is around £840 for the parts and around £1000 including labour, The hole is about 6 inch deep it's unreal!! Can anyone tell me what chance I have of claiming for the repairs because a grand is a grand! Thanks

In the UK we don't pay road tax, we pay vehicle duty which is a tax to use our car. Whether we should pay a specific tax or toll to use and maintain roads is a totally different discussion topic.

Anyhow ... no-one can say at this stage what prospects you have of making a sucessful claim. Have a read of our step by step guide to see how you might proceed.
