Potholes..Glasgow

6th July 2010

I made a claim against Glw City Council for damage to wheels and tyre after driving into pothole in Siemens St.

Reply stated that it was not an adopted rd.

Put FOI in and found that the council had made numerous inspections and repairs to rd. this year and also received another 3 claims for pothole damage (rejected)

On contacting for clarity I was informed that these repairs were carried out "in the interest of ublic safety" even though they had no responsibility to do so!

OK, and ... what is your question?

What they have done is perfectly acceptable; local authorities will repair unadopted roads but only on the grounds of safety, not regular maintenance.

Not all roads are maintainable at public expense, and in those instances any claim you make is against either the private owner of the road or the properties/businesses that are served by that road.

Good luck with that ... you will need it I'm afraid.
