London Bridge to City Road

by Billy's Bike

15 Jun 2008

For the last 12 months there has been a multitude of road works between King William Street and City Road in London.
I commute to work on a motorcycle and what with having to manoeuvre around these new bendy busses, public transport and cyclist not using their lanes, the road surfaces are a nightmare.
There has been considerable building work going on and the major problem is the “utilities” that have worked on the roads.
As you have said in other articles, the repair of the road surfaces by the utility companies is a disgrace.
At 1 stage there was a “trench” about 1 foot wide and 8 inches deep right across Moorgate that was bad enough for a car let alone a motorcycle.
From time to time tarmac is put in the holes but just “put” and not prepared properly so it is a matter of a day and everything is out and spread across the road again.
Once the surfaces have been repaired you then get another series of “utilities” digging up again with the end result of more unprepared surfaces.
I have had to replace the rear damper on the bike simply because of the hard wear caused by all these damn potholes.
I believe the utility companies should be brought to task over this.
They are quick enough digging the holes and inconveniencing the motorist but very slow filling in again.
This is just 1 stretch of road in question and I could describe more in my overall journey but I am sure your readers know them very well.
