This is an unlit single carriageway road, so when travelling last night at approx 6pm in the dark and in wet conditions, it was impossible to see the pothole as there were no warning signs or cones. Even in daylight when we have revisited today, with the position the pothole is in, if there is oncoming traffic travelling the other way it is impossible to avoid it,. I was unlucky enough to hit the deepest part of the front of the pothole so it did severe damage to my wheel as well as causing a flat tyre. The hole itself is 160 cm long and approximately 50 cm wide, and it deepens towards the front to a depth of about 20cm. This is a busy road,esp at peak periods, used by local traffic, commuters, school runs, buses, cyles, and skip lorries to the Dumpit site just around the corner, so I consider it a risk to other users and feel lucky that I avoided any collisions with other traffic when the impact occurred as the road was busy and it was an enormous impact which threw me off my driving line. My car is currently being assessed for damage, but the bill will be a minimum of £300 for the wheel, tyre & geometric check.
