Council responsibility?

by MacIvorC

09 Mar 2009

I have read many stories about people's experiences with coming into unfortunate collison with pot holes across man regions.

I have experienced the same as most in sustaining damage to wheels, tyres, suspension etc from roads that simply are not fit or safe for use by a motor vehicle!
Yet, I have not seen any forms of signs at fixed points when entering or anywhere along a road where pot holes exist for lengthy periods that say:-
"Road unfit for motor vehicles" or "road users beware - pot holes" or "risk of damage to motor vehicles due to poor surface conditions".

You do see signs however for less danger areas such as:- "narrow road - no passing places" or " do not follow SAT NAV" or " MUD on ROAD" or Hidden dip".

Therefore I ask, why on earth can't there be signs put in place for pot hole related areas? Surely the council has responsibilities here too?

Pot holes are likely to cause serious damage to your car, motorbike or any vehicle that travels along it wether it be at night or during daylight!
So, my message to any member of a council who may read this post to take note and relay the information back to their highway department:- If you cant fix the hole before someone has a bad experience at cost, put a sign in place to warn drivers about the risk that lays ahead. This is in fact a responsibility that every council should take action against instead of hiding behind sections of their road maintenance and frequency of inspections acts!

Be advised.
