the roads in kirklees

by jamesthecat

24 Apr 2009

kirklees council does not believe in road maintenance.but is more interested in 'traffic calming measures' on roads that are already in a very poor state.the road surfaces themselves act as traffic calming measures without the need for more expensive and unecessary street furniture.on one road the speed humps are almost the same height as my coffee table! this is on a road that has been dug up that many times then filled in with a different material each time.its like a patchwork.there are a few roads with some very deep potholes mainly round huddersfield.a lot of them would make very good birdbaths.i am actually surprised i have not been stopped by the police on suspicion of drink driving as i am constantly driving around potholes, raised manholes and crumbling bits of road.one of the most annoying section of road for me is on the bend of a steep hill.on the actual corner it looks like someone has used a giant ice cream scoop and scooped a large chunk of the road surface out.as my car has a very hard ride i never really get a smooth journey.so when i have had my car for a few more years or when it can no longer cope with the state of the roads.i am going to replace it with a 4x4 and warm the planet up instead of being green.so at least with a 4x4 i will have the ground clearance to avoid the worst that neglected roads can throw at me.
