Hurst Lane KT18

by sallyc

30 Nov 2011

The roads leading from Walton Road to Hurst Lane, Hurst Road are in a terrible state. During the early weeks of November the council cleared out the potholes, measured them and drew white circles round them. Since then no work has been done. As soon as the light goes you cannot see where the pot holes are until the last minute. The stretch of road is narrow, without street light and two cars cannot pass without hugging close to the side of the road. Coupled with blind bends and the three-way junction of Hurst Lane and Hurst Road this is a high risk area.

Those potholes that run along Hurst Lane are now worse, because they have been emptied of stones and loose gravel, the white lines have also faded in a matter of weeks and are filled with rain making it impossible to see where they are.

As a result On Monday 14th at 5pm driving home from Ashtead Station to Hurst Lane I fell foul to one such large pothole. Not only did the vehicle suffer a puncture but also damaged the wheel beyond repair.

The RAC were called out to replace the wheel with the spare. I then had to order a new wheel for the vehicle from Wilsons in Epsom. The work cost me £79.03 for a new Tyre, £183.00 for a new wheel plus VAT £52.42. Total amount £314.45.

Today as I walked I notice the potholes still remain un-repaired, worsened once more and new potholes emerging at the junction. These roads have both car traffic, horses, pedestrians and cyclists daily and each day a risk to accidents increases and I am reporting this as I do not want the same thing to happen to someone else.

It is made worse by the fact that the council are clearly aware of the problem but have failed to act on it.
