next step...? help.

hi,
i hit a pothole on my way home on the 3rd of january, i didn't stop and continued home. in the morning of the 4th on my way out the house i noticed the damage to my drivers side wheels, both front and back, both alloys are dented inwards and both have suffered cracks to the edge lips, both tires are damaged but the front also has a bulge in the side wall. how the tires have not both loss air pressure is amazing.
i took my vehicle to the garage for and an inspection and then i went to the pothole to photograph it, it's location in the road, and to measure the size and depth.
just after i'd finished collecting details and i was writing them down and a couple of work men showed up and filled in the hole (i also photographed them doing it).
where do i now stand, there is nothing to report, do i still send for freedom of information act? then send in a letter stating the damage and providing the evidence i have collected?
what happens now the hole has been filled?
any help would be great.
thanks in advance.
Gav
