Mascalls Lane, Warley, Brentwood, Essex

While driving along Mascalls Lane towards Warley Hill we came around a blind right hand bend ahead of us on our left hand side is the turning for Vaughan Williams Way. It was at this point that our front near side wheel on our car struck a pothole which is a foot into the carriageway from the side of the road the pothole is in the wheel tracks nearest the side of the road. The road has a raised grass verge to its side which is about a foot higher than the road surface, the road is a busy single carriageway, which is unlit, there are no kerbs. It is impossible to avoid the pothole if there are oncoming vehicles.
There are two potholes at this location and can be located as they are alongside a warning sign for a sharp left hand bend the the larger pothole measures 24 inches long 12 inches wide and 3 inches deep. There appears to have been patch up work done to the road surface at this location.
The potholes caused severe damage to the alloy wheel on our car which had to be replaced along with the the tyre. We were without the vehicle for three days while a new wheel was sourced.
