PARK CORNER, NEAR NUFFIELD

by MBAZ

23 Jan 2012

I was following satnav directions towards Nettlebed, Oxon at approximately 0940 on Saturday 21 January to meet a group of fellow walkers for a walk along The Ridgeway. I was driving along a minor road, Huntercombe Lane, with 3 passengers in my Saab 9-5. I had turned Park Corner by Digberry Farm and was driving at approximately 25 mph when there was a tremendous bang. There was nowhere easy to stop and the car seemed to drive ok so I continued. However, a mile further on as I approached our meeting point it was clear that the front nearside tyre was getting flat. When I stopped, it was flat. I was leading the group of walkers so decided to leave the car. I returned to it later, and had to call out the AA to remove the wheel and put on a space-saver wheel to get me home. The inner rim of the wheel had buckled, causing a slow puncture. I returned the next day to take pictures of the pothole that caused the damage. I was told by the occupant of Digberry Farm that he had reported the pothole on Monday 16 January. Several days later he had a phone call to say it had been inspected and no repair was needed.
