Various Potholes

by Rosco27

18 Jan 2010

There are various potholes along the A1079 between York & Pocklington which I have to travel down everyday to get to work. I appreciate this is down to the freezing temperatures we have suffered recently however what I can only describe as a poor attempt to repair some of these potholes is appauling. Only a few random potholes seem to have been repaired and to a very poor effort. Why do the council simply think by chucking a bit of tarmac in the hole and running over it with the worlds most un-even wacker plate/roller means it's repaired to a high standard is beyond me. It's only a slight improvement, if I may even call it an improvement and what does out car tax go towards? Certainly can't be towards repairing roads. Do the council realise the A1079 is the main road between York & Hull? It's used by cars, lorries, trucks, tractors you name it and it's not a dual carriage way neither. It's a busy road and needs some urgent attention. Get your finger our please....and fast!

I second that. I also commute on this road. There are 2 particularIy very bad sections in my view in the area you describe, which are more like 2 feet of swiss cheese and a foot across in some places. These bad sections are at Hodsow Lane turnoff and nearby Sharpes World of Wood/Esso Garage Barmby Moor. There is also a bad section I think not far out of Dunnington. I will place the Hodsow Lane one and try and place the other ones if not already placed later, as not certain of their exact locations. The 2 sections near Pocklington/Barmby Moor are getting so bad now I will be phoning to complain by the end of the month if they are not sorted. Also if any suspension damage is found on my next service, York City Council might be footing the bill. My suspension has started to sound very creaky of late and I am certain there is some damage.
