Massive potholes in Somerset |

by towbar 24 Mar 2007 During the last 4 months I have hit 2 massive potholes where I live near Wells in Somerset. The first hole which measured 6 ft X 3 ft X 5 ins deep caused £900 worth of damage. The second hole 3ft X 2 ft X 6 ins deep caused £250 worth of damage. Both holes were full of water and only looked liked puddles. Somerset CC say they are not responsible as they 'regulary' inspect the roads. I do not dispute this but because the roads are in such a poor state the roads need inspecting FAR MORE OFTEN. I also have discovered that the teams of pothole menders are told to only fill in the holes that have been reported and to ignore ones that have not, even though the unreported holes are massive. I am a motorcyclist also. If I had hit either of these hole at about 40-50 MPH I could now be dead! The County Councils MUST be made to accept their responsibilities. We pay our road tax and community charges, they do not give us safe roads! |
