Pair of large potholes on B269 Croydon Rd

by jrsavery

01 Mar 2010

Driving south along the road. I saw the potholes when the car in front swerved to avoid them. Unfortunately I could not avoid the first hole as another car was coming in the opposite direction, and there was not room to pass to the right of the hole.

I was doing approximately 40mph when the passenger side front and rear wheels went through the hole. The impact dented and split the front wheel, and it subsequently transpired that it caused a slow puncture on the rear wheel.

According to my parents who live in the area the holes have been present for at least 2 weeks prior to the incident on the 28th Feb.

The first pothole seemed to cause the majority of the damage and was 21" wide, approx 50" long, and up to 2-3" deep. The second hole is about 20' further up the road than the first and is roughly the same size. The ruler shown in the attached pictures is 36" long and held up against the first pothole. Measurements were difficult as the road is busy and the traffic fast moving.
