I thought i'd post this story after a recent Pothole Damage i witnessed about 3 days ago.
Me and my family decided to go to Paultons Park on Tuesday 6th of April 2010 we had a lovely day out and at around 5.30pm when the park closed me left. On the way home (Ludgershall) we went through the back roads as we did on the way there, we noticed on the way that there was a conciderable amount of potholes. We obviously dodged most of them until we came around a bend in/near Grately. As we came around the bend there was a pothole deep enough to come up to your ankle! Most car's were able to dodge it, but we noticed it at the last minute, and we hit it!
After we hit it we obviously had to brake on the corner fairly hard and straight away noticed a problem with the front left wheel. It started to make a funny noise and we had to stop on the corner which was obviously dangerous. Cars came around the bend fast and we had to slow them down to stop any other accidents from happening. This nice generous man with a child in the back seat stopped and tried looking at the wheel, he could see that our rim of the wheel was bent badly and wasn't sure if there was another problem. He told us to move up and then he left us to ring the AA team for help. The AA were absolutely useless and said "We do not come out for pothole damage unless your really stuck, and if you are, we'll get someone to take you and your car to the nearest garage (which wasn't good enough because we were a fair bit away from home) and we'll have to charge you £104!!" We told them we'd find something/someone else. We drove on at around 5mph with our hassard lights on, on a very dangerous road. We found somewhere to pull over safely for my sister aged 5 sake. We changed the tyre and we were off but felt very uncomfortable in case it wasn't just the tyre.
The next day my mum got her friend, whom owns a garage to look at it, and luckly it was only the bent rim. We were lucky not to have any more serious damage but it's a sharp bend with no warnings. I think this is one of the most dangerous and i think it should be delt with A.S.A.P.
We did however take pictures but cannot find the USB cable so they will not be uploaded.
