Successful pothole claim after only 4 weeks!!

by domski

04 Feb 2008

I hit a double pothole on 5th January. I was travelling at 30mph with my family in the car along Bridgewater Road in Wembley. All of a sudden the car thumped into these two potholes, immediately rendering my car undriveable. The n/s/f alloy wheel was completely split in half all the way round, the n/s/r alloy was buckled, both tyres popped immediately on impact and the steering geometry was bent.

To cut a long story short, I reported it the the council immediately whilst I was waiting for recovery at the side of the road, flagged down a passing police car and took the officers number who I reported it too and also took the details of two other motorists who had also hit the potholes in the time I was still waiting to be recovered. Luckily I took pictures on my mobile phone as the hole was 'temporarily' filled three hours later.

Once the claim forms came through from Brent Council about 4 days later, I filled them out and sent them off with the damage photos and receipts from the dealership. I have just had a letter from Brent Council exactly 4 weeks later to say they have investigated my claim and are happy to offer me full reimbursement of £713.68 as full and final settlement in this matter. This was the exact cost of the repair. Obviously, I have accepted this offer!

What made me smile though was the closing paragraph in their letter which stated... "Please note that this is in NO WAY an acceptance of liability by Brent Council"
