Take photographs !!!!!

I hit a pothole on a country road in April 2010 causing damage to an alloy wheel which had to be replaced costing £150. I followed the advice on this site and reported the pothole to the council and then made a claim for the damage. After several weeks without any response from the council I finally received a rejection letter, The council stated that an inspection had been carried out in November 2009 and that between that date and the date of my incident there had been no defects reported. I however took photographs of the pothole at the time of the incident which clearly showed that yellow lines had been painted around the pothole prior to the incident. I forwarded a copy of the photographs again to the council and asked them to explain the yellow lines. Today, I received a cheque for the full amount. The moral of this story is to whenever possible take a photograph.
